Dip Your Fingers into Pottery

Are you new to pottery or have some experience, but the Open Studio does not fit your needs or schedule? Come have fun with teachers who will guide you through a variety of techniques. Learn the “fun”damentals of pottery, including working with clay, basic shaping techniques, glazing, and finishing. Perfect for beginners with no prior experience required. Did you know that you can make almost anything with clay and NOT be on the wheel? Mugs, plates, vases, boxes, tiny homes, bee watering flowers, serving dishes, garlic containers, etc.? Focus of this class: Creating with fun! Participants in Dip your Fingers into Pottery will only hand paint with a wide range of colors (underglazes). After the first fire (bisque), projects will be dipped in clear glaze before the final firing. Limit: 8 participants

Glazing Basics
Fridays

$40 for the entire 4 day session
Bring your own lunch.
Add the finishing touch to your pottery! Learn essential glaze dipping techniques, experiment with colors and combinations, and practice pouring. Gain confidence in control of where the glaze goes, how to select the right glaze and using resist (wax).
If possible, bring several of your own items which have been bisque fired. However, practice items will be available. Limit: 8 participants

$50 for all supplies For those who finished a Joy in Learning Wheel Class or can use the wheel independently. Make your own pieces or help create plates for the Café and bowls for a future fundraiser while you practice, practice, practice! These Open Studio times do not have a designated teacher, so we learn from each other! We realize that many will still be working on the basics of centering, pulling, trimming, sculpting, and glazing. We are there for each other in community. Limit: 9 potters

$20 per person We had so much fun at our first Game Night, that it has come back by popular demand! While the last one focused on group games, our next one in September will have a moment for another round of Trivia, and then we will break out into smaller groups to play cards, board games, and other group activities! ROOTnetwork NEWSFifty folks participated in dinner and Game Night on June 18 in the Westminster Café. A rousing round of Trivia, Mafia, and Fishbowl games were played. Six amazing women took a slow meandering walk from the church through the neighborhood to Park Café in Sylvan Park on June 24. Thankfully, we had a beautiful cool, breezy morning to accompany our wonderful time together! Bowling in East Nashville is taking place July 16, and others will attend a Jazz Show and Dinner on July 18. Both activities are FULL. More events will be scheduled soon, so be on the lookout! The ROOTnetwork team is hard at work. ROOTnetwork (Relationships Over Our Time) offers a variety of activities in and around Nashville. Activities are open to everyone (whether you attend Westminster or not) ages 21 to 121, single or in a relationship. Some events are free, some low-cost, others pricier. We plan small (about 12) and larger group activities and welcome ideas.

Awesome Camps With Our Refugee Friends!

Creative, Hands-On Art AdventuresA HUGE thank you to our 33 wonderful Joy in Learning volunteers who provided breakfast or worked alongside 44 refugee middle schoolers and 14 adults who traveled from South Nashville to Westminster June 15-18 from 9:30 a.m. to Noon. Everyone enjoyed homemade egg casseroles, pastries, granola, yogurt, and fruit every morning! The Nations Ministry students rotated through a fabulous array of crafts which included pottery, pom pom, painting, and a STEM and mosaic class throughout the four days. Take a peek at the banners in our church hallway! Another group of eight Joy in Learning volunteers traveled to South Nashville under Ann Schulze’s guidance where they shared recipes and cooking/baking techniques with two groups of refugee high schoolers over a five-day period in June and July. THANK YOU!
