Living Out the Word – Testimonials

I am amazed how freely the young people express themselves while sewing, weaving, etc. at JIL. It has opened my eyes to the limitless gifts and talents with which we all have been blessed, no matter our age. The mysterious presence of the Holy Spirit surrounds us in this ministry!

To me, the essence of The Word is to "Love One Another." Living out the Word through Joy in Learning is my sharing knowledge of God's creation (science) with children and having them share with me the excitement of discovery.

At our last class Rene reminded us that the Bible begins with ... In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. CREATED. What we do in JIL is create. It’s a time to reflect, imagine, appreciate and enjoy the silent company of others that enjoy the things that you do.

When I am with the 1st-4th graders at Joy in Learning, I am so grateful for the other adults that I get to work with. They are so gifted working with children that it lets me do what I do best, which is to be a “big kid.” And that is my joy.

At Joy in Learning cooking, we have three generations all working together on the same mission, all learning from each other, all spreading the Gospel of love as we cook.

Volunteering has given me the opportunity to meet and teach and learn from six Westminster 3rd and 4th graders whom I might not have otherwise known. Each week I look forward to spending time and working on science projects with my new friends.

When gathered for JIL at Westminster, I feel the "rivers of living water" flowing through each and every person present, independently and all together. These hours are, for me, what make us an interwoven community across generations, and I am grateful.

I’m Living Out the Word through Joy in Learning by working together with church friends to share our love of continued learning with children both in and out of the Westminster community.
